Counting down

My next trip out west, to Arizona and the Grand Canyon, is just a month away so I will be doing a countdown. I am going to be out of the office more than I am in the office for the month if May. I have two weeks in Arizona and then I am back in the office for a week and then I am off to Acadia National Park for a family get-together at the end of May. More importantly, my retirement from Boston College, where I have been working as a software developer for the past ten years, comes up at the end of June. I will then have much more time to focus on photography and getting a real business in order.

While at the Grand Canyon I will be doing a 6-day/5-night backpacking trip down into The Canyon. I will have 3 nights at a location called Utah Flats where I am hoping to get some good Milky Way shots. Hopefully, I will have a starry night for at least one of those nights. The first and last nights of the trip will be spent at different location, not sure exactly where yet, but that may also hold the possibility for additional shots. It will be much closer to the south rim though and I am not sure how much of the Milky Way will be visible above it. There should be no problem from Utah Flats and that should give me even more Milky Way than I had from that overnight trip to Plateau Point last year.
