Zoroaster Temple and Fading Sunlight, Rim Trail, Grand Canyon Village, October, 2009
This photograph was taken from the Rim Trail, as it traverses the rim in Grand Canyon Village. Sunrises and sunsets are typically wonderfully enjoyable experiences and the early morning and late afternoon hours, just after sunrise and just before sunset, offer some fantastic photographic opportunities. This is when the colors of the rock layers are at their deepest tones and the scene is enhanced even more by the shadows cast by the low angle of the sunlight.
The granite gorge of the inner canyon can be seen in the foreground and the Clear Creek Trail runs along the plateau just above the gorge on the north side of the Colorado River. The three buttes that can be seen in the distance, from left to right, are Deva Temple, Brahma Temple and Zoroaster Temple.
