Lone Pinyon Pine Near Yaki Point, Yaki Point, December 1992
This tree, standing proudly on the edge of the canyon near Yaki Point, was one of my favorite subjects to photograph for many years. There was something about its resilience, clinging to the rim with such determination, that always drew me in.
A few years after I took this photo, I was visiting the canyon with some friends when they asked if I could take them to see "The Tree." But when we arrived at the spot, my heart sank—there was nothing left but a stump. It was a bittersweet moment, realizing that something so familiar and cherished had been lost to time. Still, I’m grateful to have captured it when I did, preserving its memory in photographs and in my mind.
